As a public medical school in Poland, PUMS is fully recognized by the Polish Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Science and Higher Education. We are accredited by the Polish Accreditation Committee, which is the statutory body responsible for the assessment of the quality of education provided by HEIs. All four of the School’s faculties have been awarded the quality category A by the Committee for Evaluation of Research Institutions.

As part of the European Higher Education Area, PUMS follows the Bologna Process. Diplomas issued by the University are recognized and widely accepted not only in the EU, but worldwide. We make sure that our programs and teaching standards meet international requirements, as demonstrated by the success of our graduates in the US, Canada, Norway, Taiwan or the UK. Where  necessary, PUMS recognition has been confirmed by respective official bodies (medical and dental boards, ministries, etc.), e.g. in Thailand, India or Jordan.

Students of PUMS have also been deemed eligible for a number of education loans and scholarships offered in other countries for studies abroad, for example: the US Sallie Mae program, Ontario OSAP, Norwegian Lånekassen, Swedish CSN, German BAföG, Saudi government scholarships, etc.

ECFMG/WFME accreditation status:

In their recent communication ( the US Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) has established that their new accreditation policy regarding foreign medical schools will come into force in the year 2024. This will mark a switch from the accreditation of individual schools to the recognition of whole national accreditation agencies. In Poland, the responsible body is the Polish Accreditation Commission (PKA) -- and according to our recent communication with this agency, it has already initiated preparatory actions leading to the submission of the official application for accreditation.

Until the year 2024 or the possible earlier accreditation of PKA by the WFME, PUMS is meeting ECFMG eligibility requirements on the individual level, as confirmed by our listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools (

The Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) is currently in advanced talks with the Department of Education. Following an official meeting at the end of September 2020 between PKA and WFME the Polish accreditation body will be ready to finalize their official submission of the accreditation application and there are some indications that the verification process will be expedited in light of the current situation.
