PUMS Student Claims Interstudent's 'Best International Student in Poland' Award
We are proud to share that Shamiram ‘Shammy’ Benjamin, a student in our English-language medical program, has been awarded the title of ‘Best International Student in Poland’ in Master studies category in the 2023 Interstudent competition organized by the “Perspektywy” Education Foundation, under the honorary patronage of the President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland and of the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
The award was presented during the “International Students in Poland” Conference Gala in Bialystok on February 9. The jury of the competition, presided by prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, unanimously based their decision on a long and impressive list of achievements that the PUMS student managed to complete during her short stay in Poland.
Since arriving in Poland, Shammy has devoted her efforts to the community by serving as the president of two student organizations and the coordinator of student clubs; she assisted in facilitating orientation events for incoming students and worked with alumni to create clinical training opportunities abroad for her fellow students. Ms. Benjamin has also prepared a series of informative documents and videos for new students regarding important procedures, formalities, and resources, while promoting the diversity of the international student body through incorporating cultural performances at university events.
She also found time for volunteering within the clinical wards of the University, with the “Bread of Life” charity organization, and Poznań International Church, in addition to the production of personal protection equipment during the pandemic crisis. She has presented lectures to our students as part of the “student as a teacher” program, as well as high school students in Poznań and abroad. An active sportswoman, she established a student Boxing Fitness Club, and managed to author/co-author 7 research papers published in international scientific journals with cummulative impact factor of 11.159.
Lastly, Shammy contributed to international promotion of PUMS and of Poland by becoming a NAWA Digital Ambassador, taking part in numerous promotion events, starring in the school’s promotional video and photo sessions, and by running a video blog on YouTube.
For these and other accomplishments, Shammy received numerous awards from the University and our international student community. We are overjoyed to see her success and hard work being now appreciated on the national level.
Congratulations!
