First in Central-Eastern Europe to implement Lotus Edge TAVI

July 11, 2019

For the first time in Central-Eastern Europe a multi-specialist team from PUMS Lord’s Transfiguration Clinical Hospital has performed two procedures of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) using the state-of-the-art Lotus Edge system by Boston Scientific.

This new device provides freedom from paravalvular leak (PVL), precise mechanically-controlled delivery with the ability to reposition after deployment, and predictable results. Thanks to Lotus Edge’s innovative design the TAVI procedure is much safer for the patient, especially in high-risk cases. The deployment mechanism of the device is explained in the following video:

The team included experienced interventional cardiologists (Assoc. Profs. Marek Grygier and Aleksander Araszkiewicz), cardiac surgeon (Dr. Marcin Misterski), anesthesiologist (Dr. Estelita Camacho-Bergmann), echocardiographist (Dr. Anna Olasinska-Wisniewska), as well as OR nursing staff and technicians.

The Lord’s Transfiguration Hospital is one of only three medical centers in Poland that perform TAVI procedures.
